Thousands of soldiers are returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with moderate to severe physical injuries. Such injuries include head tram, loss of limbs, and debilitating injuries to such areas as the arms and legs. Medical providers are utilizing a number of treatments to help these brave men and woman return to civilian life.

Service dogs are helping to counteract the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by providing dogs to help calm and relax a soldier suffering from PTSD. The dogs sense a soldier’s anxiety helps calm the soldier through the use of touch. The dogs are a loving distraction from stress. The dogs have two years of special training to help people with cognitive disorders and physical disabilities.

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) is the central point of helping soldiers recovering from traumatic injury. The Walter Reed Health Care System (WRHCS) consists of ten facilities in three states. Physical therapy services include rehabilitation treatments in areas as neurorehab, orthopedics, and amputees. The service is divided into five major sections: inpatient, orthopedic inpatient, outpatient, amputee, and aquatic therapy.

For physical injuries medical providers deliver various methods of treatment such as ultrasound, heat, ice and massage therapy, as well as a carefully designed exercise program. They also employ such treatment techniques as bands, medicine balls, stretches and exercise bikes to help e purpose is to strengthening and condition weak, sore, and injured muscles and joints. Often physical therapy has been more productive than surgery.
The physical therapist will also perform different tests to diagnose the patient’s condition. After completing the assessment, a treatment plan is discussed and therapy begins. Pain management is a key component of physical therapy.

Other physical therapy treatments include postural training and ergonomic training. Also called Human engineering, the applied science of ergonomics is focused on designing and arranging objects that patients use regularly so that patients and objects can interact adeptly and safely. For instance, work arrangements to accommodate the patient could consist of providing a more comfortable chair, sitting closer to a work desk, lowering the computer keyboard, arranging items to be at easy reach. This is often done for soldiers with back pain. Techniques and modifications are implemented to fit the patient’s specific medical condition.

Exercises are an essential part of physical therapy treatment. This can include swimming, using a treadmill, stretching techniques, breathing techniques, lifting weights. These exercises are not only for clinic use, but also for home exercise. As well, therapeutic techniques are designed to help soldiers learn how to function with artificial limbs.

The trauma of war can be emotionally debilitating. For returning injured soldiers, physical therapy includes mental health therapy. This can include providing coping strategies on how to deal with a loss of a limb, overcoming the feeling of helplessness, overcoming the feeling of isolation and depression, and showing the soldier that life can still be productive and meaningful.

Soldiers deserve the best medical treatment for their service. Because there are so many soldiers returning from war seriously injured, it is important that heath care providers are there to help them return to civilian life.

Once again mainstream medical specialists have launched their “once a decade” attack on Vision Therapy and Behavioral Optometry. They are using the internet news sites to lead an assault on a scientifically supported and well established treatment option for children with learning disabilities, claiming it has no science behind it at all, and this has been propagated across learning blogs as if it were gospel truth.

The fact is, as many parents and children with learning disabilities can attest, the right vision therapy can and does work for many children with learning disabilities! For the forth time in four decades, the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and American Association of Certified Orthopedists have combined their efforts to publish this notion in the guise of public interest.

Their view is limited, slanted and offers little hope to the parents of children with learning disabilities other then “keep pounding away at reading!”. The fact is, they are re-hashing a previous argument in the guise that it is a break through statement. This obviously biased joint statement has been rebutted, point by point, by The American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry. A point-by-point rebuttal of the misleading information intended to discredit optometric vision therapy was published by the American Optometric Association in its journal, Optometry. (Bowan MD, 2002).

Could it be that groups trumpeting the use of powerful drugs and psychotherapy are threatened by a small group of practitioners who are getting results using a non-invasive, non-drug, relatively cheap alternative?
Now, please do not read this incorrectly. I am not saying that vision therapy can cure every ill known to man, or every case of dyslexia in the world, but this I can tell you, having worked for so long in the field…
There are a significant number of children with learning disabilities who have underdeveloped visual skills. I am not saying sight, because they all see. I am taking about how the eyes work together, and how the brains interprets and understands visual information that comes in through the eyes.

Most conservative medical practitioners look at ONLY these areas:

1.Can the child see? (Their visual acuity, as represented by figures like 20/20)
2.Is there any disease present? In children, almost always there is none.
3.Is the child long sighted, short sighted or astigmatic, in an amount that we judge to be over the required level of significance? Often there is a significant amount of long sight in children with learning disabilities, but we argue about what is actually significant! My experience is that arbitrary figures are exactly that: arbitrary. So, one child will handle a large amount of long sight, while another will fail to cope with a far smaller amount. We are human, after all, not robots!
4.Can the child converge? Can they turn their eyes in to keep the print single, and most of them can.
Where I differ is that, in addition to the above measures, I like to go beyond these to examine exactly HOW children with learning disabilities process information and use it, in real ways and in real situations.

So, in addition to the above, we also look at

1. Eye movements- which help children flow in their reading and stops them misreading words or skipping lines, and it also helps in ball sports.
2. Focus and Eye Coordination- which helps children concentrate and apply themselves to their school work.
3. Visualization and Recall- which helps children to effectively remember sight words and spelling, giving them a large vocabulary to help them to read.
4. Directionality- which helps children with learning disabilities overcome reversals, writing letters back to front.
5. Cross Patterning- which allows children to use both sides of their brain efficiently.
6. Other developmental areas, including coding, sequencing, fine and gross motor, etc.
These are not innate abilities, and they are not refractive errors. These are skills, and the need to be learned in order for children to learn to read, write and spell effectively.
And, they can be trained, altered and enhanced in simple, non-surgery, non-drug, non-colored lens ways. I have spend years developing a series of therapies that actually work, and instead of the hundreds and thousands of dollars most learning disability treatments charge, these will cost just over $6 a week, for 6-8 months of therapy.

But is it rubbish? Am I profiteering from the unfortunate parents of children with learning disabilities. Hundreds of changed children who have conquered their learning disabilities with my specially designed Vision Therapy say I am not, as do their satisfied parents.

But this is not a scientific rebuttal of this vicious attack on my profession. I simply cannot be bothered, and I’m too busy treating real children with learning disabilities. However, I can direct you to a place that can give you real science, if that is what you are into.

In the mean time, let the academics slug it out and let’s get on with the business of helping these children who struggle with learning disabilities. And if you are the parent of a child with learning disabilities, and you are not sure who to believe, why not take a $6 a week chance on a guaranteed Vision Therapy program you can do in your own home and check out our site for more information. I believe, after all the arguments are over, that your child is worth it.

Osteoporosis, is sometimes thought of as a disease that only affects elderly ladies, this is not true, it can start to affect people at a very early age, it also affects approximately 20% of men in quite a serious manner.

Unlike osteoarthritis, which can be very painful, Osteoporosis has no obvious symptoms and it is often called the “silent thief” because you do not feel anything, it just steals your bone strength without you knowing about it.

What is Osteoporosis? it is often referred to as thinning bones, the word Osteoporosis actually translated means “Porous Bones” and it is referring to the deterioration in bone quality and density, leading to fragility and weakness, with a increase in the risk of bone fracture.
The most common sites for fracture to occur are the hip, wrist, pelvis, spine and arms.

Bone density deteriorates at a very gradual rate, probably from the middle twenties onwards. The condition may go undetected until a major fracture occurs.

What causes it is usually due to the bones losing more calcium than is being deposited, just like drawing more money out of the bank than you are putting in to your account. As you age the deterioration worsens, or increases, the outer shell of your bones weaken and the inner part develops larger holes, the condition is more difficult to remedy, the worse it has become, there are pharmaceutical drugs available that can slow down the deterioration, and sometimes even reverse it a little. The condition can not be cured, but it can certainly be controlled, Modern medications can be very effective for many people

The most important thing that you can do, is to have a bone mineral density test, whilst you are still OK and have a good reading for density levels, you should consider good nutrition, eat foods that are rich in Calcium and Vitamin D, and last but not least, increase your exercise activity, these three things will help you to maintain your bone strength and lower your chances of becoming another victim of Osteoporosis.

I hope that some of you reading this will take notice of the three things that you can start doing earlier rather than later, the sooner you think about what you consume the better it will be for you in the long term, some experts believe that poor quality nutrition and junk food are actually “calcium robbers”, you can help yourself if you really want to, just make the most of good quality food.
Good Health.

Depression is a most common side effect of osteoarthritis. This occurs when you start out healthy, being able to do things for yourself, but overtime you are less able to take care of yourself as the pains get worse. Research has shown that up to twenty percent of people with osteoarthritis are depressed at any given time, a percentage consistent with that found in other people with chronic diseases.

If osteoarthritis has left you depressed, there are a number of things you can do in addition to the arthritis treatment you get from your doctor.

1 Psychotherapy
This is often referred to as the ‘talking cure’, and it is used to treat mild episodes of depression.

2 Drug Therapy
This is the use of drugs to improve the symptoms of depression. The class of drugs used for this purpose is called antidepressants. It is advisable to consult your doctor before taking any antidepressant because medicines used in treating depression sometimes have different side effects.

Psychotherapy and drug therapy are mostly combined to treat arthritis patients with depression, and this combined approach has advantages.
It reestablishes normal body patterns more quickly
It helps to ensure compliance in taking medication
It recognizes the dual influence of biology and environment.

3 Learn to cope with your condition
Research has shown that those who cope best with any disease are less likely to develop depression, that is, those who deal with their osteoarthritis are less likely to sink into depression. Be proactive at solving your problem, and try to be as flexible with your daily activities as possible. Be ready to modify your lifestyle in a positive way, thereby winning the battle over depression.

4 Get Social Support
It is advisable for you to join a support group where you can find sympathetic ears and get some advice on coping with your condition.

5 Learn to Relax
Always find a way to cool off and reduce your stress. The best defense against stress is a positive attitude.

Stress itself may not cause depression but can make it worse. It signals certain glands to release high-voltage chemicals that can ‘shock’ the body and weaken the immune system, making your osteoarthritis symptoms seem worse while increasing your risk of getting some other disease.

Do anything you can to relax and shake off the stress- listening to music, meditating, or taking up a hobby. Getting enough sleep is also essential to reducing stress.

6 Touch Therapy
Research has shown that touch can reduce psychological stress associated with arthritis. And only a very soft touch is required as bear hugs may be too much for many osteoarthritis sufferers. A gentle, loving touch can be very beneficial in fighting arthritis.

Sleep studies are carried out for a variety of reasons. The problems of abrupt awakening known as Night terror or say Pavor nocturnus, wherein the patient get up from sleep as if in terror. The tests for sleep terror disorder are mostly behavioral tests. Through sleep disorder test your physician attempts to understand the nature of your sleep disorder. Is it Narcolepsy (sleep apnea) or is it a seizure occurring during night time (Nocturnal), also to test the walking while you are actually sleeping and also to test the ‘Restless leg syndrome’.

How the Sleep Disorder Test is conducted?

Sleep study test procedure of painless Patient is prepared for sleep disorder test in hotel bed, 8 surface electrodes are connected to your scalp by specific glue. The process will find out level of sleep of patient through video recording of eye movements and brain waves. Electrodes are put underside the chin to register muscle tone. Electrodes at lower portion of both legs observe leg actions. Elastic bands, placed on chest, abdomen register the breathing effort. A probe is kept on finger measures the oxygen quantity and a few patches are placed on chest to note down the heartbeat. The technologist will be monitoring from an attached room, using his data recording paraphernalia.

Instructions are given to the patient by intercom to do some tasks in to confirm proper performance of equipment. The study is formally goes into operation with “Good Night” for a period of at least six hours, for child may go up to eight hours. After collecting sufficient respiratory data, the technologist will fix the Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) machine, an interface device to the Patient. CPAP forms the beginning of sleep apnea care. CPAP will send filtered air to support the airway remain open. CPAP has been found exceptionally successful in cure of “obstructive sleep apnea”. Before starting the use of CPAP patients might have to take second study.

Criteria For to Be Met Before Using CPAP/BiPAP in Diagnostic Sleep Disorder Test:

It is essential that all the below mentioned conditions, in totality and compulsorily be adhered to, before fitting CPAP or BiPAP machine to the Patient. During first 3 hours of sleep study at least two hours the patient was asleep. At least sixty respiratory events are netted during two hours of sleep to compare with a ‘respiratory disturbance index’ (RDI) of 20. In an hour, patient must have registered at least 20 respiratory events. There should be 2 percent fall in oxygen saturation (some ask for four percent fall) in respiratory events.

Patients are prohibited to use caffeine products in the day and no naps before night of the sleep disorder test. They are asked to have their scalp and hairs clean, dry, and free of any type of hair cosmetic.

The names other of sleep disorder tests of value are (1) The Multiple Sleep Latency Test (2) Polysomnogram (Sleep Study), and (3) Sleep Apnea Study. They are conducted as directed by the attending Medical practitioner.

Most people will at one stage or another experience a startle or jolt just as they are falling asleep. The sleep disorder community calls the phenomenon a hypnic jerk. Essentially they are harmless and wont effect the quality or quantity of your sleep but they can be worrying, especially if you have never heard of this condition before.

Scientists haven’t worked out why our bodies respond like an electric shock has just gone through us. Apparently it happens more when we’re overtired, stressed, in an uncomfortable position or anxious. I know I’ve experienced it more than once while sitting in a dull lecture or in plane seat. There are a few theories.

One states that as our bodies react to falling asleep by relaxing, a part of our brain that hasn’t transformed to its sleep state thinks we’re falling or in danger. It sends a jolt to ensure our muscles are ready to face what ever threat there may be.

An issue with the reaction is that it can be quite a stressful experience in itself. If you’re ready for bed and have been having trouble sleeping, the interruption of the jolt is quite annoying. It can create a anxious feedback loop whereby you’re worried about drifting off only to be woken up again. Unfortunately the stress result of this worry may make the shock more likely.

The most important thing to remember is that if you experience the hypnic jerks than you are completely normal and one of an estimated 70% of the population who have them during their life. Try to relax, take some deep breaths and try a soothing drink such as chamomile tea or a stress relieving CD and let sleep come to you naturally and without worry.

Fibroids are basically non malignant tumors that grow around or inside the uterus. They are formed either naturally or nutritionally attained. The nutritionally attained ones are a result of estrogen dominance in the body. Imbalance of hormones progesterone and estrogen causes the occurrence of natural fibroids. Any uterine fibroid treatment must therefore focus on addressing the hormonal imbalance and estrogen dominance issues.

You must be well prepared to deal with fibroids. Start by educating yourself about fibroids by scouting the net or interacting with other women with fibroids. You can participate in a number of online forums too, to keep yourself updated about the latest options available for treatment for uterine fibroids. These forums will guide you on simple aspects of fibroid cure like changes which you need to make in the way you eat, what to eat and what to avoid to get rid of fibroids.

I started my fibroid cure by completely cutting off white food from my intake. I replaced it instead with brown foods. It meant staying away from white bread, white sugar, white potatoes and milk. Instead I started having brown or granary bread, sweet potatoes, goats milk or organic milk. I excluded red meat and chicken from my diet. You can include organic chicken and fish instead.

While undergoing treatment for uterine fibroids avoid fizzy drinks, sugared juices and alcohol. Replace these with fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Use organically grown fruits and vegetables as far as possible.

There are certain categories of food which actually prevent or block estrogen from being produced in our bodies. Cabbage is an estrogen blocker which can be included in your salad every day. Alternatively have cooked cabbage.

Taking vitamin B supplements which contain magnesium, calcium and potassium is said to be useful for fibroid cure. Vitamins A, C and E are also useful and can be found in foods such as liver, kidney, citrus fruits, leafy vegetables, wheat germ, nuts and seeds.

These simple diet changes are absolutely essential to make a success of your uterine fibroid treatment plan. In fact all your efforts in treatment for uterine fibroids will go waste unless you make diet and lifestyle changes. These changes must be permanent if you want to avoid recurrence of fibroid tumors.

People usually think of a cold when having those regular symptoms; hardly when the headaches become unbearable they see a doctor and find out they suffer from sinusitis. Although sinusitis only means an inflammation of the sinus cavities, the symptoms are always worse than you expect and people spend millions every year trying to relief the symptoms.

Sinuses are small air cavities located around the nose, known as Para nasal sinuses, situated inside the head bones. The frontal sinus lies right up the eyes in the brow area, the maxillary sinuses are inside the cheekbones, the ethmoid sinus is localized between the eyes and behind it, and the sphenoid sinus lies behind the eyes in the upper region.

Every sinus cavity is connected with the nasal passages through a membrane layer which can get inflamed, and with the nose for air and mucus exchange. Inflammation together with sinus obstruction and secretions blocked inside the sinuses lead to an increased pressure and to the apparition of powerful headaches. Sinus attacks can also be caused by the swollen membrane that blocks air from going into the air passages.

Sinusitis pains have different characteristics depending on the involved sinus; a general type of pain is the one coming up in the morning when you get off bed. Aches caused by bending the head forward are specific for frontal sinusitis; pains in the upper teeth, upper maxilla and cheeks are signs for maxillary sinus infection. The ethmoidal sinusitis causes pain between the eyes and swollen eyelids, loss of the smell and airless nose. Sphenoid sinus infection is a more rare condition and gives deeper pains in the head, earaches and pain in the neck.

General symptoms of sinus inflammation are:

1.	Fever

2.	Nasal congestion or runny nose

3.	Loss of physical strength

4.	Bad cough attacks especially at night

5.	Larynx irritation because of the mucus drainage to the back of the throat

Bacteria and viruses entering the nasal passages with the breathe air cause most of sinusitis cases. The human body reacts against colds and flues caused by these organisms by secreting a higher quantity of mucus which will eventually be trapped inside the sinus cavities together with air. Immunity cells called leucocytes get there firs and cause the nasal congestion and the swelling of the membrane lining. When the nasal passages are blocked, infection develops as bacteria specific to the respiratory tract multiply and become destructive.

Viruses, bacteria and fungus colonize our bodies without harming them. When the body is weaken and in our case, sinuses are blocked, they become aggressive and can produce acute sinusitis.

If you have been watching the news lately, everyone is talking about the N1H1 Virus, more commonly referred to as swine flue influenza. Every year tens of thousands of people around the world suffer through the miserable experience of influenza as they experience the symptoms of sneezing, coughing, headaches, congestion and fatigue.

This has public officials, the medical community and governments up in arms as they race to develop a flue shot that is capable of treating and inoculating people from this new strand of influenza.

While the N1H1 virus is a new strand of the influenza virus, treating the virus is not new, but relies heavily upon taking the same common sense practices used during every flue season to prevent the spread of the flue and to treat those affected with the flue virus.

To prevent the spread of the influenza virus, health officials are advising the practice of good hygiene. When dealing with the public at large it is a good idea to wash your hands after coming into contact with people, handling phones, using mass public transportation or handling shopping carts at the supermarket.

In cases where an outbreak is severe, stay alert for any warnings that may be issued by public health officials such as travel restrictions to certain destinations around the world or even avoiding large crowds such as theme parks or enclosed cabins. If you or anyone in your household happens to contract the flu, it is advised to stay home. Parents should keep children at home with the flu while they recovering to help prevent the spread of the virus to other children.

While recovering, it is important to drink lots of fluids containing vital nutrients you need to recover. Fruit juices high in Vitamin C and other antioxidants are extremely effective at boosting the body’s immune system and have been proven to speed up recovery. There are several juices on the market that contains high antioxidants. Just check around the Internet or visit your local grocery store and look for oranges, grapes, grapefruit, and even some vegetables like beets. Berries are a great source of nutrients. Acai berry, which has recently been brought to the forefront, is known to contain the highest level of antioxidants than any other natural fruit or vegetable.

This berry which is grown in the Amazon Rainforest has gained massive momentum and popularity amongst the healthy conscious in Western civilization and is known for it’s unique blend of antioxidants, trace minerals and essential vitamins needed to help the body recover from illnesses such as the flu and many other ailments.

Here’s how it happens . . . Bone is made up of living tissue, mostly collagen, which forms a framework for the bone. Calcium is a mineral which is added to this framework to make the bone hard and strong.

During childhood and teenage years, new bone is added faster than old bone is removed. After 30, this reverses. It’s more likely to develop if you don’t reach optimal bone mass during your early years. This is why treating osteoporosis naturally with the right calcium supplements along with minerals and vitamins can make an enormous difference and actually prevent it from happening in the first place!

In osteoporosis, the bones become brittle and porous due to loss of calcium and all of a sudden break. The bone density loss can occur long before the advanced symptoms and you may not even realize you’ve got it until a simple fall or accident causes a fracture. Natural osteoporosis supplements are well worth taking to avoid such pain in the future.

Symptoms in advanced osteoporosis are bone pain, joint pain and spontaneous fractures. Any bone can be affected but the most vulnerable and crucial areas will be the hips and spine.

Osteoporosis can strike at any age and affects approximately 60-70% of women and 30-40% of men. 50% of all women between the age of 45 and 75 show some degree of osteoporosis and out of those, 33% suffer serious bone deterioration. Women are more likely to develop osteoporosis than men because they lose bone tissue (through losing calcium) more rapidly than men, especially after menopause. This is why supplements for natural osteoporosis treatment are essential.

Osteoporosis is approximately the 12th most common cause of death (eg following a hip fracture). In the US alone it costs $3.8 billion to treat people with osteoporosis (and not using natural treatments). Compare that to the small cost of calcium supplements as a natural treatment for osteoporosis!

Preventing Osteoporosis – A Natural Approach

An overwhelming body of opinion favours calcium supplements as an alternative and natural treatment for osteoporosis. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body and 99% of body calcium is found in the bones and teeth. However as you get older your body is less efficient at absorbing calcium and other nutrients.

The most recent clinical research clearly points out that our diets are critically deficient in calcium and the only way to get enough calcium to treat osteoporosis or prevent it is through using good, absorbable calcium supplements and a sensible diet.
Supplement with a good source of calcium and other minerals (liquid is always best) – most people consume less than half the amount of calcium needed to build and maintain bones. A well balanced diet with plenty of green leafy vegetables. Exercise – particularly weight-bearing exercises. Avoidance of processed foods, cigarettes, alcohol and carbonated drinks.

Detecting possible signs of osteoporosis is essential for prevention and cure.

A bone density test may be useful to detect signs of osteoporosis. However these are normally done on the large bones and it’s the small bones that will actually give you the indication that you’re losing bone tissue first.

A natural approach to treating osteoporosis is to first determine if you’re suffering a calcium deficiency and are at higher risk.

In his book, ‘Rare Earths Forbidden Cures’ , Dr Joel Wallach lists the common signs of calcium deficiency: receding gums (osteoporosis of facial bones and jaw bones), kidney stones, bone spurs, cramps and twitches (e.g. eye twitches), lower back pain, Tinnitus (ringing in the ears is actually osteoporosis of the ear bone), high blood pressure can sometimes be a calcium deficiency, poor blood clotting, Arthritis, bad PMS, cracking bones and joints.

Highly active or athletic people – if you sweat heavily, your loss of minerals, particularly calcium, will be much higher! You need to replace all those minerals you’ve sweated out!)

Risk factors:
Women (especially post-menopausal). Age – the older we are the more bone tissue we lose. Older men and women need to consume more calcium. Body size – small thin-boned people are at greater risk because they have less bone mass. Lactose intolerance and celiac disease can lead to calcium deficiency. Diets high in processed food which are high in phosphorus and prevent calcium from being absorbed.
Treating Osteoporosis Naturally

Whilst there are a number of drug treatments offered by conventional medicine, the general consensus is that treating osteoporosis naturally with supplements and early prevention methods haven’t been used to their full advantage.

When it comes to treating osteoporosis naturally, the use of nutritional supplements with calcium as a focus have produced spectacular results. The following supplements for treating osteoporosis naturally are recommended:
Calcium & magnesium supplements from a high quality and highly absorbable source at 2000 mg and 1000 mg per day respectively for the first 30 days. Colloidal calcium, magnesium, boron (can be found in plant derived minerals) digestive enzymes taken 15 minutes before meals. (improves absorption of calcium from food and supplements). Vitamin D (lack of vitamin D can cause a calcium deficiency as it helps the body absorb calcium). Calcium is highly absorbable (up to 98%) in organic plant derived colloidal minerals and water soluble chelated form. (i.e. Liquid calcium supplements with vitamin D, magnesium and manganese are excellent).
Dietary Tips for Natural Treatment and Prevention of Osteoporosis

Natural sources of Calcium: some dairy products such as yogurt and cheese (milk is not a good source as it contains a high amount of protein and will prevent calcium from being absorbed), Dark green leafy vegetables (eg broccoli and spinach), Tofu, Almonds, Foods enriched with calcium (eg some orange juice is enriched with calcium supplements). Natural sources of Vitamin D: Egg yolks, Salt water fish, Liver NB Your skin will make Vitamin D following direct exposure to sunlight. Drink eight glasses of pure, filtered water every day (you need water to eliminate toxins). Eat a variety of foods with a low fat, high protein intake. Eat organic, fresh foods wherever possible.
Exercise and Lifestyle for Osteoporosis

Exercise is important as a natural treatment for osteoporosis because bones respond to exercise in the same way as muscles – they grow stronger. (If you have osteoporosis, plan your exercise programme with your physician.

Weight-bearing exercise is best because the bones respond by becoming stronger (e.g. walking, hiking, jogging, stair climbing, weight training, tennis).

If there’s one thing that conventional medicine and natural osteoporosis treatments have in common, it’s exercise.
Many accidents and falls will occur around the home since this is where you spend most of your time. If you have osteoporosis, keep your home uncluttered and obstacle-free. Have things within easy reach. Do use a walking stick or other aid for support. Make sure stairs are well lit. Don’t rush! Treating osteoporosis naturally can start right in your own home!

Treating osteoporosis naturally – things to avoid:
Smoking affects the lungs and is bad for the bones and bad for your osteoporosis. Excessive alcohol – can contribute to bone loss. Processed foods (Many processed foods are high in phosphorous. Diets rich in phosphorous upset the phosphorous to calcium ratio and may result in calcium deficiency.) Some medications can cause bone loss, particularly medications prescribed for arthritis and asthma. Excess sugar and caffeine lead to a loss of calcium from the bones. Carbonated drinks neutralize stomach acid – the result is decreased absorption of calcium into your bones.
Summary

Our risk of developing osteoporosis rises as we get older and affects men and women. There are many warning signs for osteoporosis such as grinding joints, bone spurs, receding gums and high blood pressure – all signs of a calcium deficiency . Treating osteoporosis naturally involves supplementation with liquid minerals – particularly calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals along with a good multivitamin. Lifestyle is important – reduce your intake of sugar, caffeine and alcohol (these all cause calcium to be lost from the tissues); increase your intake of fresh food – particularly green leafy vegetables. Weight-bearing exercises such as yoga, light weights are an excellent strategy for preventing and treating osteoporosis naturally.
